Floyd Central High School invites your speech and debate team to the Highlander Howl.

All IHSFA Speech events, Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Congressional Debate will be offered.

Registration: Entries must be submitted via http://www.speechwire.com .  All entries must be received by Monday, January 12, 2014, by 3:00 P.M.

Entries:  Forty total entries allowed per team with a limit of five entries per event.

Doubling:  Contestants may not double in Discussion or a debate event.  Extemp may double in Impromptu or Original Oratory only.  Duo partners may not double in another duo event.

Electronic information retrieval devices will be allowed under NSDA rules.

Congress:  Bill numbers 3, 5, 10, and 15 will be discussed.

Radio:  Contestants should prepare in advance of the tournament a three-minute news program.  The host school will provide source materials for commercial, editorial, and on-the-spot rounds.

Discussion:  The topics will be Current Events, History, Literature, and Music. Artifacts will be released one week prior to the meet. They can be found in the “Files to Download” section of SpeechWire.  There will be no prep time prior to the start of the round.

Tournament Details

The tournament will consist of four straight rounds.  Extemp will draw first and third rounds.

Registration begins at 7:30 A.M. First Extemp draw is at 8:30 A.M. Rounds will be at 9:00 A.M., 10:30 A.M., 12:00 A.M., and 1:30 P.M.  Awards are scheduled for 3:30 P.M.

Judges: Each school must bring one trained judge per five entries (or fraction thereof).  

A hospitality room for judges will be provided.

Awards: Ribbons will be presented to the top eight in each category. There will be no separation of novice and varsity. The top five schools at large will receive sweepstakes trophies.

Food:  Teams will congregate in the Cafeteria. Concessions will be available. Please encourage students to purchase concessions to help defray tournament expenses. 

Hotel:  Louisville is nearby; however, we recommend the Holiday Inn Express (812-945-2771) in New Albany within ten minutes of Floyd Central.
