Speech Coaches:

The Blaine High School Speech Team invites you to the Blaine Speech Tournament on February 7th, 2015.  We look forward to hosting great tournament and providing an excellent experience for your students.

We will offer the 13 MSHSL categories, plus impromptu speaking.  Given the time in the season, both NFL and MSHSL time limits will be honored.  Impromptu speaking will be no more than 7 minutes per student from the time of the draw.  Students may triple enter, but not across draw entries.  We encourage everyone to consider trying impromptu.

 

There will be three preliminary rounds and a final round.  All rounds of competition will be mixed between varsity and novice competitors to provide a solid educational experience for our novices.  If numbers warrant it, we will offer a final round for novices only...in addition to the final round for each event.  We want to make certain new speech students have an excellent opportunity to learn and grow.

 

Fees -- School fee of $20.  Registration fee is $6.00 per entry,  and a duo = one entry.  Registration fee for impromptu is $2.00.  

Judges --Each school must provide one judge for each 6 entries or fraction thereof.

Draws – Storytellers will draw from the first 10 stories.

Draws- Extemp Speakers will draw from the MSHSL question areas.

Draws-Extemp Readers will draw a piece of literature each round.  They will have 30 minutes to read, cut and prepare their piece of literature for the standard Extemp Reading time.  There is no need to bring your Extemp Reading books.  You may wish to bring a pen and/or highlighter.

 

We will have a full array of concessions for students to buy.  We will also have a judges'/coaches' lounge.
