The Southern and Northern Atlantic Forensic Union cordially invite you and your students to attend the Liberty/SNAFU Swing, September 27-28, 2014.   Both tournaments will take place in Lynchburg, VA on the campus of Liberty University.  We will offer all 11 AFA events at both halves of the swing.  What follows is information that should make your trip to the swing easier to plan:

ENTRY INFORMATION

 

 1. There is no limit on team entries in any event.

 2. Students may enter a maximum of 3 events per bracket; 2 duos count as 2 events.

 3. The deadline for entry is Tuesday, October 1, 2013  at 5pm eastern.

 4. Entry fees are $8 per event slot.

 5. Please provide a qualified judge for every eight event slots.

 6. Hired judges are available at $10 per uncovered slot.

 7. Drop fees are original entry fee plus $10 penalty after entry deadline plus $20 if on Saturday or Sunday.

 8. Dropped judges after the entry deadline will each be assessed a $100 fee in addition to standard judge fees.

 9. To register for the James Madison portion, please fill out the entry form below and return by one of the following (in all cases we will confirm):

10. To register for the George Mason portion, please go to www.speechwire.com, scroll down to “Fall VA is for Lovers” and request a password to submit your entry. You should receive by email your password information and can then enter your students and judges at the Speechwire website. You will receive a confirmation email detailing your entry at 6pm on 10/2/2013. Please be sure to check the entry you submitted and immediately correct any errors directly at the Speechwire website.

 

 COMPETITION AND AWARDS

 

1. Both tournaments will offer 2 rounds of preliminary competition and a final round.

2.  Any event with more than 50 entries competing in both preliminary rounds will feature a semifinal round.

3. We will offer an award for the top six entries in each individual event (two awards for duos).

4. The top five individual sweeps winners will each receive an award (students must be entered in four events to be eligible).

5. The top five schools will each receive an award.

6. A swing sweepstakes award will be presented to the top overall student sweeps winner for both halves and the top overall school sweeps winner for both halves.

7. We will use AFA-style rules and tabulation.

8. Both halves will feature a cross-examination period in the extemporaneous speaking final. 

9. To register for the SNAFU portion, please go to www.speechwire.com, scroll down to “SNAFU #1 at Liberty University” and request a password to submit your entry. You should receive by email your password information and can then enter your students and judges at the Speechwire website. You will receive a confirmation email detailing your entry at 6pm on 9/24/2014. Please be sure to check the entry you submitted and immediately correct any errors directly at the Speechwire website.
