Pinecrest Speech and Debate
 
Dear Coach,
 
Please join us for the Eighth Annual Pinecrest Open Speech and Debate Tournament to be held Saturday, September 27th at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, NC. We will be offering competition in Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Novice categories in Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas debate. We will be offering Novice and Varsity categories for speech events that have six or more entries. Competition will be offered in Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Congress, Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Oral Interp, Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speech, and Original Oratory. 
 
Our school registration fee is $25.00 and $10.00 per student per event.
 
Public Forum Debate will use the September/October topic: Resolved: On balance, public subsidies for professional athletic organizations in the United States benefit their local communities.
 
Lincoln-Douglas Debate will use the September/October topic: Resolved: A just society ought to presume consent for organ procurement from the deceased.
 
Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate will use the Novice topic: Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified.
 
Congressional Debate will use the legislation bank on the TFL site (www.ncspeechanddebate.org). We will be using the following pieces of legislation from the bank:

01-Border Patrol Funding, 03-fracking, 04-Compulsory Voting, 05-End Privatized Prisons, 08-ban standardized testing, 11-Restore Military Draft, 13-online security, 17-Drones, 25-Untested Medication, 26-Hate Crimes, 36-Troops to Israel and Palestine, 40-Somalia,  
 
Novice speech competitors will not be penalized for using their scripts.
 
Oral interpretation will be prose/poetry in alternating rounds.
 
 
We will be presenting the Carter Cup, our new sweepstakes cup, to the winning team. As many of you are aware, this cup is being presented to honor our former coach, Mrs. Libby Carter. 
 
We sincerely hope that you and your team will be able to join us on the 27th! Drop date is September 24th. Registration will take place from 7:00-8:30am in the media center at PHS. Please write your checks to: Pinecrest Forensics Boosters.
