2015 Noblesville New Year's Bash!

Hello, Indiana Coaches! There's a lot of information below, so please print this out if necessary! This will be an AWESOME meet!

Speech & Debate: Varsity
Congress: No division

REGISTRATION:  I will accept registration on Speechwire through January 6, 2015 at 6 PM. If you THINK that you'll be attending our meet, PLEASE mark that "you will attend" on Speechwire. I want to have a ballpark number for my food vendors. Check-in will begin at NHS at 7 AM. All participant meeting at 8 AM in auditorium. Rounds start at 8:15 AM.

FEES: I am piloting/testing the implementation of a (minimal) fee structure for this tournament that is based on number of entries (0-29 entries: $15; 30+ entries: $30) These funds will allow us to host the best tournament possible, taking into consideration the potential size of this meet. I can promise the best facilities, food, judges' lounge, tab staff, and awards possible. You will be blown away by what we are able to offer by just collecting this small fee from each team. I will be anxious to hear your feedback at the conclusion of the tournament! Fees will be due AT registration. No mailed checks will be accepted. Your entry fee as of January 6, 2015 at 6 PM will be your FINAL invoice, regardless of drops after that time. There will be no fee for drops.

CHECKS MADE PAYABLE TO: NHS SPEECH TEAM

FOOD:  Available throughout the day! There will be LOTS of food.

JUDGES/COACHES LOUNGE: There will be lots of food and seating. Coffee, donuts, bottled water, canned beverages, snacks and catered lunch provided.

EVENTS:  All State speech events, Improv Duo, Congress, Policy Debate, Lincoln Douglas, and Public Forum.

ROUNDS: 3 Rounds and a Final round of 6 for speech. Debate events will go 4 straight rounds (Congress: 2 sessions). We will "poster drop" final round postings.

DOUBLE/TRIPLE RULES: Discussion may not double. Extemp may double in Impromtpu, OO, or BOTH (triple). Memorized duo may not double in scripted duo. All other events may double/triple AT THEIR OWN RISK.

A student MAY attempt to QUADRUPLE (made possible through flighting) within the following guidelines
-No extemp competitors may attempt due to prep time
-One of the four events must be Impromptu or Improv Duo
-No more than two events per flight

If a student misses a round for ANY reason, scores will be dropped for the event missed. I cannot reiterate enough: doubling/tripling/quadrupling is AT YOUR OWN RISK. Tab staff will NOT accept ANY excuse for rounds missed. Rounds WILL begin PROMPTLY and end after 1 hour and 15 minutes has elapsed.

ENTRIES PER EVENT: You are welcome to bring up to 6 entries per event. NO second teams. No other entry rules apply

JUDGES: 1 judge for every 5 entries (or fraction thereof). The Speech & Debate judge pools are SEPARATE...please supply judges accordingly!

CONGRESS BILLS: 5, 10, 13, 15

RADIO:  Please bring (3) prepared items:

a. 2-minute CURRENT newscast
b. 2-minute editorial on neighborhood crime
c. 1-minute commercial for Swiffer
Final round will be on-the-spot (students will be given a picture).

DISCUSSION:  This season, the IHSFA will again use a Socratic Seminar format. Students will be given all necessary material for the discussion at the meet. Students will have 10 minutes to review information/take notes before the discussion begins.

IMPROV DUO:   Competitors will have 5 minutes total to prepare and perform an improvisational duo with a given topic. 2 chairs provided. Competitors MAY touch/make eye contact.
