IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR TCNJ.

ADDRESS: 2000 Pennington Rd, Ewing, NJ

LOCATION: The tabroom, judges’ lounge, and postings, and student gathering area will take place in the Student Center.

PARKING: All cars must have the TCNJ parking permit displayed on their dashboard.   Buses will be directed to a specific lot (TBA).  This parking permit will be emailed to all head coaches prior to the start of the event.

FOOD:  Only coaches and judges will be served in the judges’ lounge.   We will have three meals planned: dinner on Friday, breakfast on Saturday and an early dinner on Saturday.  Students and visitors will be able to purchase food at specific times at The Lion’s Den in the student center.    Only coaches and judges will receive meals.

HOTELS: There are several hotels in the immediate area of TCNJ.  Since we do not have any idea how many schools will choose to stay at a hotel, we are not creating any groups.  If we find the league could benefit from a hotel block, we will consider it for next year.

This year will again feature Congressional Debate into the state championship.  Schools are permitted to enter any number of students into Congressional Debate without any qualification burden; however, schools will receive a maximum of four entry points to their base sweepstakes total, and the top four performers’ points will apply to schools’ final debate and overall sweepstakes totals.  Schools who would like to submit legislation should send them to Fr. Michael Tidd (Michael@delbarton.org) by Friday, February 28, 2014.  If entry numbers warrant, student congress may be a Saturday-only event.

JUDGES

COACHES: Judges must be well-trained and qualified in order to judge the NJFL State Championships.  Please review the rules with your judges beforehand to ensure the best experience for our students.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING NOVICE JUDGES TO THIS IMPORTANT EVENT

ALL JUDGES MUST BE AVAILABLE AND WILLING TO JUDGE FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF THE TOURNAMENT, including ALL SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL ROUNDS.  We appreciate all coaches communicating this with their judges in order to facilitate the efficiency of schedule.

JUDGE QUOTA:

Schools must provide one qualified judge for every five speech entries or fraction thereof.

Schools must provide one qualified judge for every two LD entries or fraction thereof.

Schools must provide one qualified judge for every two PF teams or fraction thereof.

Please have your judges complete the JUDGE OBLIGATION form at http://goo.gl/RGWJtd.  This will help us start the tournament on time and ensure judges are best utilized according to their skill and talent.  REMEMBER, NO JUDGES WITH LESS THAN TWO TOURNAMENTS OF EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE ENTERED FOR THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.  Our students are dependent on having qualified and capable adults.  PLEASE NOTE: NO STUDENT JUDGES AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (THIS INCLUDES NOVICE DIVISIONS IN DEBATE).

A very limited number of judges will be available for hire for $175.00 ($75.00 for Friday/$100 for Saturday).  ALL JUDGE REQUESTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE ENTRY DEADLINE

The script approval process...

For Interpretation Events:  Please complete all bibliographic information for interp selections at Speechwire.com by the registration deadline. At the tournament, students/coaches should have a clear and clean copy of the scripts with them at all times.  Original scripts will be required in the event of a protest.

For Original Oratory:  Copies of all Original Oratories with secondary sources highlighted and cited will be collected at registration. For your convenience, they will be held for the District Tournament.  Please include the exact number of quoted words, along with the following statement signed by student and coach:

“I hereby attest that this oratory is an original work created by the undersigned.”

Please be reminded that the NJFL State Tournament follows all event guidelines set forth by the National Forensic League.  Please review these policies prior to the state meet.  Note specific filing procedures for both divisions of Extemporaneous Speaking, including new rules regarding the use of computers.  You can access the specific event guidelines at www.nflonline.org or njflonline.org.
