The Lakeland High School Speech and Debate Team invites you to our
2014 Laker Invitational on February 22, 2014 in LaGrange, IN.
Register through www.speechwire.com by Tuesday, February 18 at 5:00 pm.
We will offer one division (Varsity) with three rounds and a final.
Extemp draw and Broadcasting prep will begin at 8:00 a.m. with Round 1 beginning promptly
at 8:30 a.m.
Doubling Restrictions: Students may double at their own risk. No doubling in Discussion or Broadcasting is permitted.
Extemp may only double in OO or Impromptu. Both duo partners may double in any event other than a second duo.
Entry Limits: Eight entries per event, and 75 total entries per team.
Final Registration will run from 7:00-7:45 a.m. (EST). ON SATURDAY MORNING, please confirm your entries by
either calling or texting (765)242-7291. This will ensure that we begin on time.
Judges: You must provide judges for every 5 entries or fraction (6 entries=2 judges).

Awards: Ribbons for top 8 entries in each event and trophies for the top 4 teams.
Food: We will have food and concessions available for purchase. Thank you in advance for your support, as it assists us
in paying the fees for this meet. We will also provide Foltz Bakery items and lunch for the judges in the hospitality room.
Event details:
Broadcasting:
Round 1-Bring an original 3-minute newscast no older than Thursday;
Round 2-Bring an original 2-minute editorial on an issue of national concern;
Round 3-Bring an original 30-second commercial that is related to Valentine’s Day;
Final- On the Spot, 2-minute prep with 2-minute speaking time.
Discussion Will be announced closer to the meet date.
Extemp will draw for rounds 1 (also use for round 2) and 3.
Lip-Sync: We will be holding a Lip Sync Contest prior to awards. Interested contestants should come prepared with a 2-
4 minute song either on flash drive in mp3 format or on a CD. Students will be judged solely on non-verbal gestures and
how well their mouths line up with the music. Students may enter as a "solo" or "duo." Limit of 2 entries per school and
10 entries total. To enter this contest, email us directly, or we may accept entries on the day of the tournament if room is
still available. Please email the name and song of any student interested. FIRST COME, FIRST PRIORITY!!!
