Greetings everyone,

I'm happy to announce that registration is officially open for the 2013 MDL Midseason Classic, to be held Saturday, December 14th at Bay View High School. Below, you'll find details about the tournament and information on how to register:

2013 MDL Midseason Classic
Saturday, December 14, 2013

When: 9AM-5PM (Registration runs from 8AM to 8:45AM, Round 1 at 9AM). See attached schedule for details.

Where: Bay View HIgh School, 2751 S Lenox St., Milwaukee, WI 53207

How to Register: Two ways you can register:

1. Register online via Speechwire.com. If you're new to Speechwire, you'll need to create an account. From there, you should be able to directly register for the 2013 MDL Midseason Classic.

2. Email your registrations (team partnerships/divisions/judges) to me directly, and I'll put you in the system.

Registration Deadline: Tuesday, December 10th at 7PM. We understand changes happen, but if you can register by the deadline, even if it's a rough count, it's immensely appreciated :)

Registration Fees: For non-MDL schools, we'll be charging a small registration fee to cover our costs of running the tournament. Entry fees are $30/two-person team and $20 per maverick entry (mavericks are allowed to win). Checks can be made out to the Milwaukee Debate League. We'll have invoices prepared upon your arrival at the tournament, but if you'd like one earlier, we can do that too.

WDCA State Leg: Should any non-MDL WDCA program register, the tournament will function as a state qualifying tournament.

Meals: The MDL will be providing free breakfast and lunch to all students. Breakfast normally consists of bagels, fruit, granola bars, and juice. Lunch will consist of pizza from Little Caesars, vegetables, a cookie and water.

Awards: This year, we're pleased to announce that we'll be awarding a traveling trophy for the winners of the Varsity Division. Regular team and speaker awards in the Varsity and Novice division will also be awarded.

Novice guidelines: In order to compete in the Novice division, debaters must be in their first year of debate (24 rounds or fewer).

JV guidelines: The JV division is intended for advanced Novice students (students with more than 24 rounds of debate experience) and second year varsity students.

Varsity Disclosure: Varsity teams must disclose 1ACs (advantage areas, tags/cites and plan text) to MDL administration by the disclosure deadline. The disclosure deadline for the 2013 MDL Midseason Classic will be Wednesday, December 4th at 9PM. Disclosed affirmative cases will then be emailed out to registered teams and posted to the MDL Argument Wiki on Thursday morning.

Novice Packet Limitations: Debaters will be limited to using arguments found in the Wisconsin Novice Packet, as per WDCA guidelines. That said, counterplans will not be runnable in the Novice Division at the 2013 MDL Midseason Classic.

Judging: Per usual, we ask that you bring one judge for every two teams.

Judge Training: If you or your judges are new to judging at MDL tournaments, we ask that they attend a brief new judge orientation, from 8:20-8:40AM at Bay View the morning of the tournament.

As always, feel free to shoot me any questions should they come-up -- I'm happy to do my best to answer them.

We're very excited to be opening up this tournament to the broader state. A pre-emptive thank you to Ken Dunbeck and Aaron Shapiro at Bay View for what was a relatively last-minute site change. We're looking forward to it -- we hope you are too!

Best regards,
Bill
