Floyd Central High School invites your forensics team to the Highlander Howl. This is an open tournament that includes all IHSFA Speech events, Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, and Congressional Debate.

Registration must be submitted via http://www.speechwire.com. All entries must be received by Monday, January 13, 2013, by 5:00 P.M. EST.

Entries:  Forty total entries allowed per team with a limit of five entries per event.

Judges: Each school must bring one judge per four entries (or fraction thereof). Entries in debate or congress must provide a judge familiar with the event.  A hospitality room for judges will be provided.

Doubling is allowed; however, contestants may not double in Discussion or Debate.  Extemp may double in Impromptu or Original Oratory only.  Duo partners may not double in another duo event.

Electronic information retrieval devices will be allowed under NFL rules.

Congress:  IHSFA Legislation numbers 1, 3, 12, and 13 will be debated. The legislation is available at IHSFA.org.

Lincoln Douglas and Public Forum will debate the January 2014 NFL topics.

Radio:  Contestants should prepare in advance of the tournament a current three minute news program.  The host school will provide source materials for commercial, editorial, and on-the-spot rounds.

Discussion:  Socratic Seminar format. Materials will be provided

Tournament Details

The tournament will consist of four straight rounds.  Extemp contestants will draw 30 minutes before the first and third rounds and repeat their speeches for the second and fourth rounds. Radio prep will begin 15 minutes before each round.

Registration begins at 7:45 A.M. EST. The first Extemp draw is at 8:30 A.M. Rounds will be at 9:00 A.M., 10:30 A.M., 12:00 P.M., and 1:30 P.M.  Awards are scheduled for 3:30 P.M.

Awards: Ribbons will be presented to the top eight  in each category. There will be no separation of novice and varsity. The top five schools at large will receive sweepstakes trophies.

Food:  Teams will congregate in the cafeteria. Concessions will be available too help defray the cost of hosting the tournament.   

Hotel:  Louisville is nearby; however, we recommend the Holiday Inn Express (812-945-2771) in New Albany within ten minutes of Floyd Central.
