2nd Annual Invitational Speech Tournament
Saturday, January 25, 2014--RESCHEDULED FROM DECEMBER 7, 2013
Location: Joint campus of IUPUC and Ivy Tech (for online map reference, please use 4555 Central Ave., Columbus, IN 47203)
Time: First round starts 8:30am (Extemp Rd. 1 draw at 8:00)
Format: Four straight rounds of competition
Events: Broadcasting, Declamation, Discussion, DX, FX, Dramatic, Humorous, Impromptu, Prose, Poetry, Original Oratory, Original Performance, Memorized Duo, Scripted Duo, Improvisational Duo, and Congress
Congress: Bills 4, 6, 10, and 14 to be debated.
Broadcasting: Rd 1: Newscast, to be prepared by the competitor before the tournament
Rd 2: Breaking News Bulletin, cold read
Rd 3: Commercial--10 min. prep, 1 minute on product provided by tournament hosts
Rd 4: On-the-spot
Doubling: Permitted in all events except for Discussion
Tripling: Only permitted if the third event is Improv Duo
Discussion will follow the IHSFA Socratic seminar format. The general topic for the meet is: Prejudice/Discrimination. There will be 10 minutes for preparation before each discussion round begins.
Each school is allowed 5 entries per event. Team entries will be capped at 40 per school.
Judges: Please provide one (1) judge for every five (5) entries or fraction thereof.
This meet will take place in three or four campus buildings. Please make sure your teams are in authorized areas throughout the day.
Concessions will be available throughout the day. Fast food or restaurants of any kind are 2-5 miles away, so please avail yourselves of our food! And help us offset the costs of our meet.
