Welcome to the DC Flash Forensics speech tournament, taking place on Saturday, February 15, 2014!
 
The deadline for registration is Monday, February 10 at 5:00pm.
 
FORMAT:  3 rounds, 1 final
 
EVENTS:  Drama, Humor, Mem Duo, Scripted Duo, Poetry, Prose, Original Performance, Declamation, Original Oratory, US Extemp, Int'l Extemp, Impromptu, Broadcasting, Discussion.
 
SWEEPS:  Top 6 in each event earn a ribbon and score sweeps points (1st place=6 pts, 2nd=5, ... 6th=1 pt).  Top 5 teams earn a team trophy.  The host school is not eligible for a team trophy.
 
ENTRIES:  25 entries per school maximum.  5 entries per event maximum.  No pickups on the day of the tournament.
 
DOUBLING:  Students double at their own risk.  Students may double in any event except and Broadcasting.  Students doubled in Impromptu should go to their Impromptu round LAST.  Tripling is not permitted.
 
JUDGES:  One judge for every 5 entries or fraction thereof.  (5 entries=1 judge, 6 entries=2 judges, etc)
 
SCHEDULE:
 
7:00-7:45  Check-in
 
7:45  Judges' meeting
 
8:00  Extemp Draw #1, Broadcasting Prep #1
 
8:15  Round 1 begins (all events except Extemp and Broadcasting)
 
8:30  Extemp and Broadcasting Round 1 begins
 
Rounds begin at 8:15, 9:30, 10:45, and 12:15.  Extemp Draws and Radio Preps are at 8:00 & 10:30.
 
RULES:
 
Broadcasting: 
 
     Round 1-Editorial (Contestants will WRITE a 2-minute editorial from a provided information sheet)
 
     Round 2-Newscast (Contestants must BRING a prepared, 2-minute newscast)
 
     Round 3-Commercial (Contestants will WRITE a 1-minute commercial from a provided information sheet)
 
     Round 4-On the Spot (2-minute prep, 2-minute performance)
 
Discussion:
 
     Discussion will utilize the new Socratic Seminar format.  Competitors will have 10 minutes to study preparation materials before the round begins.  All preparation materials will be provided at the tournament.
 
Extemp:
 
     Draws will occur before Rounds 1 & 3 only.
 
     Competitors MUST give the Draw 1 speech during Rounds 1 & 2, and the Draw 2 speech during Rounds 3 & 4.
 
IHSFA Rules will govern all other events.
