The College of New Jersey’s Society for Parliamentary Debate is proudly presenting our first annual High School Speech and Debate Invitational on Saturday, November 2, 2013. This tournament is open to any school. Many schools have already expressed interest in attending our tournament, so we hope you can too! We truly look forward to working with you all.

 

Tournament Staff

The tournament will be run by our Tournament Directors, Zach Myshkoff and Symone Yancey, both veteran debaters with experience running tournaments.  They will be assisted by Farrah Liu as Assistant Tournament Director, a former high school debater, and the entire TCNJ Society for Parliamentary Debate, all of whom are extremely enthusiastic about this tournament.

Note: all Speech is Varsity.

 

We reserve the right to place and change caps on the number of entries if necessary. We will offer final rounds in all speech divisions, and hopefully breaks to semi-finals for debate. This may change depending on the number of entries and what time allows. Also, double entry in speech is allowed but not in debate or congress. Please specify if a student is a novice, since we will announce the top novice.

 

We will feature the NFL resolutions for November in PF and November/December in LD.

 

Please email all Congress bills to tcnjtournaments@gmail.com by Friday, October 25th and they will be posted to Speechwire by October 26th.

 

Registration:

Please make all entries by Monday, October 28th by 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 30th by 12:00 p.m. Registration will be handled via Speechwire.

Deadline for all drops: Friday, November 1st deadline at 12:00 p.m.

Fees can be seen on Speechwire and invoices can be printed from there.

Please provide payment on the day of the tournament in the form of cash or check.

 

All checks should be made payable to “TCNJ Society for Parliamentary Debate”. If you need to have the check mailed, send it to 8 Maria Road, Woodcliff Lake, NJ 07677 (Our President's House, TCNJ mail has been very slow for us in the past) If there are any questions about this, contact us as soon as possible as more time gives us more flexibility. We want you all there so we will accommodate requests to the best of our ability.

 

Awards

We will have trophies for all the finalists and semifinalists. We will also have top 5 school awards. We may add awards based on the number of entries in each category.

 

Food

Food will be served all day. Judges will be provided food at no charge.

 

Please try to be on time in the morning. We know it isn’t easy but if college kids can wake up on a Saturday morning before 7 a.m. and prepare, so can you!

 

There will be further information about parking for cars and buses as the day approaches.
