Dear Coaches,
We would like to invite you to La Porte High School on January 11, 2014 to compete in the La Porte High Speech Tournament. We will be offering all fourteen of the IHSFA speech events
Registration:   
Done through Speechwire, Please have your competitors and judges entered before 5:00 pm CST on Tuesday, January 7th., 
Final Registration will be Saturday morning beginning at 7:00 am through 7:30 am.  In case of inclement weather, I will try to       
        notify head coaches as soon as I know if there is a delay or cancellation, so please, as part of your registration,  include a 
        reliable contact number. 
Please try to call between 6:30 and 7:00 am to report any drops.   The number to text with drops is (219) 363-8226 or, if possible, 
        send an email to jwszolek@lpcsc.k12.in.us.  
Please be aware, we will have team rosters with correct codes for the competitors on the morning of the tournament; these may be 
        different from those on Speechwire Friday night. 
 
Entry Details:
 
We will have varsity and novice divisions but may combine these in some events depending on the numbers;
There is a limit of forty entries in total per team: you may enter a B or non-sweeps squad of no more than 12 entries;
No more than four entries per event per division. If we have to combine events or divisions due to low numbers, this will not apply 
        to those events but will still apply to the divisions; 
Please bring one judge for every five entries or fraction thereof  (so 6 entries = 2 judges) Also, on your entry, please name the head coach as the first judge entered.
Unless otherwise stated below, competitors may double, but no tripling;
Event specific details:
        o Discussion may not double. Will follow the Socratic Seminar format; prompts and artifacts will be presented at the tournament.
        o Extemp may double in impromptu only.  Questions will be drawn from Time, Newsweek, The Economist, and Christian Science   
                Monitor.  The competitors will draw before Rounds 1 & 3.  If numbers are small, DX and FX may be combined and then separated 
                for awards.
        o Broadcasting may double in non-prep events.  
                 News broadcast: Come prepared with a three minute news broadcast.
                 Breaking News/ (information provided)~ We will prep at tournament
                 Commercial: Come prepared with a one minute commercial for national chain department store (T’is the season…).
                 On the Spot (information provided)~ (2 minutes)  Photo/captions from previous 10 days of USA Today, print or online 
                        edition.
        o Duo contestants may not double in another duo event.
 
Tournament Structure:
Four straight rounds of competition,
Extemp will draw at 7:45 am for Round 1 at 8:15 am.
Awards around 3:30 pm
 
All coaches, judges and competitors should remain in the building.  Food will be available throughout the day in the cafeteria and in the judges’ lounge.
