Greeting Speech Enthusiasts: You have been invited to the annual Warren JFK Lions Club Speech and Debate Tournament. Please read the following information about important logistics. As this tournament is opposite the Sylvania Invitational, there will be some small changes in registration procedures and scheduling. Speechwire Registration Concerns: · Registration deadline is Monday, January 10th at 2:30. · Schools are permitted up to six entries in each event. Three entries may be designated varsity and three designated JV. Varsity and JV will compete against each other. There is no JV designation for debate. · Extemps will be combined for a total of 6 entries (contact Teri Dutton if you would like to enter more than 6). All extempers should be entered under US Extemp. There will be only one set of awards in extemp. Extempers may draw from either US or International topics. The combined extemp will count once towards team sweepstakes. · In debate, there will be no power pairing. The event will operate round-robin style with the best records and strength of opposition placing highest. Fees: Entry fees are $3.50 per entry. (PF and Duo entries are $7.00) Please make checks payable to JFK Speech and Debate. Awards: Trophies will be given for the top four finishers in each event. Certificates will be given for 5th-6th. Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top team. Sweeptakes will be computed based on your top 10 competitors based on the following scale: 3pts for a "1" 2pts for a "2" 1pt for a "3" All wins in debate will be worth 3 points. Registration the morning of: · Registration will be in the computer lab in the main hallway down from the office. · Please register before 8:30. · All debate should be dropped off at Blessed Sacrament in Warren before coming to the High School. This school is about 10 minutes from the high school. · Please register your debaters and debate judges at the high school when you arrive. · All debate participants and judges will be shuttled back to the high school after round IV. Extemp Topics: Extemp will draw rounds 1 and 3, repeating speeches in round 2 and 4. Anyone wishing to submit questions may do so by emailing them to Teri Dutton @ teridutton@sbcglobal.net. Judges: As this is one of the last meets before districts, you are encouraged to bring an extra judge or two to ensure they qualify for district consideration. As sections will be smaller, please bring 1 judge for every 4 IE entries. In debate it is 1 judge for 1-2 entries; 2 judges for 3-4 entries; and 3 judges for 5-6 entries.
