Friends in Speech:  Speechwire registration info will follow soon, but as this is new on the calendar, Adam Dane from St. John's Jesuit  and I wanted to get the information out to possibly add to your calendars!  Stretch out the holiday season, by adding an early Thanksgiving.  The first annual Notre Dame Academy-St. John's Jesuit "Tourducken" Speech and Debate Invitational will be celebrated on November 22nd and 23rd.  NDA will host individual events and St. John's will host Policy Debate (PDQ) and Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Student Congress.  St. John's and NDA are not quite ten miles apart and the route is clocked at thirteen to sixteen minutes (we have students who claim they can do it in ten--we do not recommend this speed.).  Both schools are close to expressway exits and St. John's Jesuit is exceptionally close to hotels.

As this is replacing NDA's Ducks-on-Ice tournament, we will continue to use Rubber Ducks (oh, the infinite variety) for 1st through 6th place).  While traditional trophies may require maintenance, the Rubber Duck becomes such a part of family life that dusting is rarely needed.  To make Thanksgiving special, your speakers can take their first place Rubber Duck add some tail feathers and make a holiday table decoration--not only festive, but quick to steer table talk to his/her fabulous showing at the tournament.

Now the details of the days…
Registration:  Will be from 3:45 to 4:35 pm at NDA.  Debate only schools can check in at SJJ.  Please drop your debaters off first.  We want to get the debate rounds going as soon as possible. For NDA--drop off at the back entrance--we will have computer check in waiting for any issues and you will avoid any traffic jams in front of the school. .  We ask, of course, you call ahead with as many changes as possible. For SJJ, please enter the Iott Center entrance on Airport Highway
Congress will use the OHSSL choices for this weekend.
Judges:  Please bring one judge for every five students in Individual Events or Congress.  Please bring one judge for every one-two L-D debaters.  For PF or Policy competitors, please bring one judge for every one to  two teams.  If you have one debate team, bring one judge, two teams bring one judge, three teams bring two judges, four teams bring two judges, etc. We may have a very few judges for hire for $50.00 a day.

Registration fees:  $10.00 per contestant regardless of events.  Make checks payable to Notre Dame Academy.

Registration deadline:  Please register on Speechwire. Please try to have registrations complete by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 20th. We will keep it open for changes until 3:00 p.m.on Friday the 21st. We reserve the right to limit numbers in an event  to six per school, if we must, but will try very hard not to do so!

Time Schedule

Times should be pretty accurate, but are subject to flaws in the space-time continuum that surround all speech tournaments. We will try for four rounds and a semi-final and final if numbers support in individual events. And six rounds and then break rounds in LD and PF.  Policy will follow OHSSL rules for PDQ.  Congress will have three sessions and a super congress.
