Schedule: Can be found online at debatemilwaukee.org/events or in the tournament documents section on SpeechWire. Also available on request.

Divisions: We'll be offering rounds in both Varsity and Novice divisions. The novice division will provide new debaters with an opportunity to take of their training wheels before Saturday's season opener, where state qualification is on the line. The varsity division will provide experienced debaters with an incredible opportunity to get some early season experience, in addition to the opportunity to qualify for an all-expense paid trip to Dallas.

Maverick Teams: Will not be allowed in the Varsity Division. They will be allowed in the Novice Division.

Adds/Drops: Coaches should feel free to modify their registration through SpeechWire as we approach the tournament.  Each team must then confirm their entrants with the Registration Desk upon arrival at the tournament, during the registration period.

Disclosure: Varsity teams must disclose non WDCA Novice Packet Affirmatives by Wednesday, September 18th by 9PM. See our full disclosure policy at http://milwaukeedebateleague.wikispaces.com/2012-13+MDL+Disclosure+Policy for details.  Disclosures should be emailed to Bill Altorfer at billaltorfer@urbandebate.org

Prizes: The top six teams in the Varsity division will represent the MDL at the 2nd Annual George Bush Economic Debates in Dallas, TX on October 19-20. Additional prizes will be given by the MDL (speaker awards and overall team performance) during the awards ceremony. The Bush Institute is also providing the MDL with economic books and other items as part of their involvement with the tournament, which will also be distributed at the awards ceremony.

Meals:  A morning snack, lunch and dinner will be provided to all students. If you have students with dietary concerns, please let us know.

Student Seminar: During the morning, students will participate in a seminar by Dr. Roberto Salinas-León. Dr. Leon is President of the Mexico Business Forum. He is an expert on trade, monetary policy, and economic liberalization in Latin America and coeditor of Money and Markets in the Americas: New Challenges for Hemispheric Integration. While this is an incredible opportunity fall all of our students, Varsity debaters will especially want to pay close attention to the economic issues discussed by Dr. Leon -- the elimination rounds at the Bush Economic Debates in Dallas will be impromptu rounds on economic issues, some of which will be discussed in the seminar. More to come on this.

Permission Forms: In order to participate at the 2013-14 George W. Bush Economic Debate Qualifier, students must submit (either individually or through their coach) a signed copy of the 2013-14 MDL Permission Form.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have. This should be a phenomenal way to open the season -- I hope that you and your students are excited!

Bill
