Hello Again:
It seems like only a year ago since last I wrote this invitation.
Except for last year when we were "the only game in town" and we set records for entries (more on that later) the Le-Win tournament is a good one for novices and B-level participants who aren't selected to attend the bigger Chicago tournaments held on the same day, as well as for schools that have smaller teams that would prefer not to compete against much larger schools.
Even though last year was certainly not our first tournament, I did learn a thing or two from it. The first thing is not to schedule a tournament that is bigger than our facilities can handle. Because of several factors coming together at the right (or wrong) time, I had the perfect storm of a very large (by our standards) tournament and not enough room to put everyone. Therefore, I'm going to have to put in a couple of unbendable entry "restrictions" for this year:
1- Students may enter NO MORE THAN TWO EVENTS. Sorry, no triple entries this year.
2- Each school is limited to three entries per category.
Also--
Registration: 7:30 AM
Fee: $95 (I f an outstanding balance is owed from last year, this must be paid with this year's fees.)
The tournament is open to Novices and Varsity.
Structure: Two prelims and 1 final. The first prelim will be double-judged, the second single-judged, and if we have the people, varsity finals will be triple judged (but I'm promising nothing; we'll see who we have to work with). Novice finals will have one judge.
Registration: Speechwire
Judges: One for every 5 entries.
Events: all 14 of them
Radio prep: Once for prelims, again for finals
Extemp questions and impromptu topics: Don't bother sending any. We'll take care of that.
Awards: Medals for varsity, ribbons for novice. Team trophies will also be awarded.
Entry deadline: the day before you leave for Christmas Break
Food: We take a certain amount of pride in serving good food. We'll have fresh sandwiches with meat provided by a local processor, salads, and locally-made pizza. Please support our team by visiting the concession area.
Location: the Elementary/Junior High building on the right side of Fremont. It's right across from the high school, but do not park in the high school lot. Park in the large lot to the south of the Elementary building.
