Dear Speech Colleagues:
Shepard High School is proud to host the 5th Annual District “218 Fling” Speech Tournament on Saturday, February 1, 2014.
We realize that we are one of the few tournaments in the area on this weekend. Our building also has some usable space limitations because of a construction project that is taking away some previously usable areas. For these reasons, we can only guarantee team entries of two (2) per event. As we know our numbers when time comes closer, WE MIGHT be able to accommodate more than two entries.

10 – 12 Entries: 2 judges
13 – 19 Entries: 3 judges
20 – 24 Entries: 4 judges
25 – 30 Entries: 5 judges
*Each team will be responsible for the number of judges based on their original entry number. Teams that are missing judges will be charged $50.00 per judge. This fee will need to be paid before your team will be allowed to compete. Contestant drops on the tournament day will not decrease your number of required judging assignments.
*Please supply your judges with stopwatches for limited prep events.
THE RULES
The “218 Fling” Tournament will follow I.H.S.A. rules for all individual events with the following exceptions:
Extemporaneous Speaking: Contestants will have one 45-minute prep period. That speech will be used for both preliminary rounds. Contestants will be double-judged in Round II and single judged in Round III. Finalists will prep for a second time.
Radio Speaking: Contestants will have one 45-minute prep period. That script will be used for both preliminary rounds. Contestants will be single judged in Round II and double judged in Round III. Finalists will prep for a second time. Time will factor into contestant ranking.
THE AWARDS
Team scoring: Preliminary round scoring will determine team placement. The top two scoring contestants in each event will count toward your total team point tabulation.
