Please join us at the Buffalo Grove 12th Annual Hypothermic Tournament of Mittens on January 11^th, 2014.

This year we will be once again taking donations of mittens and winter outerwear for charity.  The items collected will be donated in the name of every school that participates to WINGS, a shelter and resource for homeless and abused women and children.  The team that donates the most items will be recognized in awards with the “Warmest Heart” award.  Please see guidelines for this award on Speechwire documents file.

Competition will be held in fifteen individual events--- yes we do duo!

DDA, DI, Duo, EX, HDA, HI, IMP, INFO, OD, OC, OO, PO, PR, RS, SOS.

We will hold Final & Next In rounds. Team awards will be based upon the top two highest scores in each event including Duo.

During the break before out-rounds we will hold a Middle School Showcase, please contact Tracey Repa (repa3@sbcglobal.net) for more information on Middle School Speech, Debate, & Acting teams.

1 qualified judge per 6 entries (if incremental, please round up).

Radio: Students will prep at the tournament for Rounds 1 and 2; they can use either script in Round 3. Students will prep again for the Final/Next In round. An individual student may not double enter in Extemporaneous Speaking if they are entered in Radio Speaking.

 
Extemporaneous Speaking: Students will prep at the tournament for Rounds 1 and 2; they can use either prepped topic in Round 3.  Students will prep again for the Final/Next In round.  An individual student may not double enter in Radio Speaking if they are entered in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Impromptu Speaking: We will be following the new IHSA format.

Duo Acting: We will be following the NFL rules.

Time: There will be no official penalty for time (except in Radio).   Judges may individually consider time as part of the criteria for ranking.

You may triple enter competitors; however, the schedule will be tight and a round cannot be held up for a late student, also it is not advised that serious consideration be given if the student is considering triple entry and one of their events is Radio Speaking or Extemporanious Speaking.  In finals, a contestant may be triple entered.

Entry fee: based on number of entries, not on full teams

1-16   entries $110.00

17-27 entries $170.00

28-40 entries $240.00

41-60 entries $320.00

The WINGS organization appreciates all of the efforts made each year from the schools that participate.  I know everyone is busy, but if you could motivate your students to contribute to this clothing drive I know the apparel will be put to good use.  Last year we brought in close to 1000 items, with 15 schools participating.  Our hope is to exceed this number and we hope you join us in this effort.
