Dear Coaches,

 

The Captain Shreve High School Debate Team, along with the administration, wishes to invite you and your team to the Captain Shreve Speech and Debate Tournament which will be held on Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16, 2013, on the campus of Captain Shreve High School.  We will offer open divisions in Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Original Oratory, and Duo Reading, Duet, and Oral Interpretation (OI may go to Jr./Sr. with good numbers). Junior and Senior divisions will be offered for Extemporaneous Speaking.  We will also have Novice and Advanced Lincoln Douglas Debate divisions; and Novice and Advanced Cross Examination Debate divisions if numbers permit.

*Time Limits:

When a student goes over the 30-second grace periods, he/she may be ranked NO HIGHER than 2nd.

 

*Entry Limits:

Students may enter two (2) Individual events plus Duo/Duet or one (1) division of Debate.

 

 

*Judging Requirements:

                CX /LD:  One judge for every three entries, or fraction thereof.

                 I.E.: One judge for every six entries, or fraction thereof.

                Duo/Duet:  One judge for every four teams or fraction thereof.

*The same judge may be used for both debate and individual events. Please impress upon your judges the importance of attendance and promptness. All judges should report to the auditorium 20 minutes before each round begins. Any school unable to meet judging requirements may opt to “buy out” uncovered judges for $25.00 per judge.

*We will use community judges first, but please ask your judges to be present so we may use them as needed.

2.)  Coaches: Please submit your list of qualified student judges at registration. This applies only to advanced (3rd or more year in debate) debaters qualified to judge novice CX rounds. Please add as many good student judges as possible!

*Awards:

Awards will be awarded to those students placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in each event (4th in Duo/Duet).

                Sweepstakes awards will be presented to the top three schools in the tournament.

 

 

 

*Fees:

                $5.00 for each Individual event and LD

                $10.00 for each Team Event (Duo, CX)

                Late fees: Drops after Wednesday- $10.00 per team, $5.00 per I.E. plus entry fee

                                     Drops at registration- $20.00 per team, $10.00 per I.E. plus entry fee

 

 

*Food:

Competitors may purchase food throughout the tournament from our concession stand in the cafeteria.

Coaches and Judges may relax and enjoy a meal in our hospitality room located in the Teacher's Lounge.

*We ask that food and drinks remain in these areas and not be taken to other parts of the building/campus.

 

 

*Event Rules

 

1.)  Please see the NCFL and LHSSL Constitution in addition to the New Coaches Manual for complete rules governing each of these events.  See the Rostrum for the January/February LD Resolution.

 

                2.) Specifically, there will be a 30-second grace period allowed.

 

3.) The tournament director reserves the right to monitor and/or request extemp source cites if deemed necessary.

 

4.) All students are expected to adhere to the Code of Ethics as stated in our LHSSL manual.

 

*Division Changes

In the event that numbers warrant a collapsing of divisions or cancellation of an event, we will notify you by fax or e-mail Wednesday or Thursday morning. Make sure we have your fax number and e-mail address on your entry form. Small divisions will break straight to finals during the semi-final time slots. Unsanctioned events, if not cancelled, may still compete for trophies.

 

 

*Tab Room

There will be a closed Tab Room.  NO ONE (except coaches) will be allowed admittance unless there is an emergency.  Ballot bags will be located in the hospitality room.

*Extemp Topics

In order to prevent complaints about unsatisfactory extemp topics, we invite you to send in three (3) of your own with your entry.

 

Extemp rounds will alternate between domestic and foreign topics.

***Laptops will be allowed in extemp draw- see rules regarding use at lhssl.com. All other electronics prohibited***
