Thanks for choosing to attend the 2013 Logansport High School Speaking of Love Tournament, February 9, 2013! The deadline for the registration form is Wednesday, February 6 by 3:30 pm. Please register on speechwire. I will send a confirmation when I receive your entry. If you do not receive confirmation from me on the day you send your entry, I have not received your registration.

SCHEDULE: Registration begins at 7:00am, with extemp draw beginning at 7:30. All other rounds will run 8:00, 9:45, 11:30, and FINALS as close to 1:00pm as we can.

EVENTS: The tournament will offer all IHSFA events, except congress. Teams may enter a maximum of 48 entries with a limit of 6 students in each event. Additional non-sweeps entries/teams will not be accepted. Each team will provide one judge for every five entries or fraction thereof. That means 6 entries = 2 judges.

DOUBLING: Contestants may double at their own risk, with the following exceptions:

•    Discussion and Broadcasting (Radio) may not double.
•    Duo partners may not double in another duo event.
•    Extemp may not double in the other Extemp event. Extemp may only double in Impromptu or Original Oratory.
•    Impromptu may only double in Extemp.
•    Students may triple at their own risk.
•   No drops will be picked up.
• All events will go 3 preliminary rounds and a final.

Broadcasting: competitors bring self-written news broadcast & commercial

●       2 minute news broadcast

●       1 minute commercial featuring a Valentine’s Day-themed product or service

●       2 minute editorial: to be written at the tournament

●       Final Round: Breaking News/On the Spot

Discussion: After seeing the success that Lafayette Jeff had with the Socratic Seminar, we will be modeling our Discusison format after theirs. A text will be given at the beginning of each round. Students will read the text and discuss.

Extemp: Extempers will draw 1st and 3rd round. Speakers will use 3rd round topic for final.

MEALS: Food and beverages will be available throughout the tournament from 7:30am-1:30pm. Please support our program and dine with us! Additionally, we will need to know how many judges, coaches, and drivers will be dining in the judges’ lounge so they may be issued a meal ticket. Please provide this information in an email after I send your confirmation.

AWARDS: The top six places in each event will receive ribbons and earn sweepstakes points, 6 down. We will offer 6 team trophies.

ESTIMATED TIME OF AWARDS: 3:00p.m. With your help, we will run a timely awards session.

ARRIVAL AND FOUL WEATHER DELAYS: We’ll be crossing our fingers, but…Should inclement weather cause us to delay the start of the tournament or cancel it entirely, we will contact you via the contact number you provide in the registration by 5:30 a.m.
