EVENTS
All IHSA rules for the 14 Individual Speech Events will be followed.

ENTRIES
Schools may bring up to three entries in each event. Competitors may enter up to two events. Freshmen and sophomores are eligible to compete, as well as first-year junior and senior competitors.

FEES
$75.00 for 1 to 14 entries, $150.00 for 15 – 28 entries, and $225 for 29-42 entries.

COMPETITION
Each student will compete in two preliminary rounds. The top 30% would advance to round three, and the top 50% of the third round would advance to the fourth round.

AWARDS
Any student who qualifies for the third round and does not advance would receive a bronze medal.  The top 50% of the students who compete in the fourth round will earn gold medals; the remaining 50% of the fourth round would earn a silver medal. [A minimum of 10 in each event will advance to round III & a minimum of 6 to the final round.]

TEAM AWARDS
The school with the top percentage of medals will receive a gold plaque; the second will receive silver.  The school with the third highest percentage will receive a bronze plaque.

JUDGES & JUDGING
Each school will be responsible for bringing at least one adult judge for each six entries, as well as one student judge (junior or senior). Or, a school could opt to bring an additional adult judge and no student judges.  If a school cannot provide the number of required student judges, they may hire an additional adult judge either on their own or from the tournament. Judges will be available at a cost of $100.00, but must be requested at least one week before the tourney. There will be two judges in each preliminary round (one student, one adult, or two adults).  The third and fourth rounds will consist of a three judges (at least two of which are adults).  Judges will keep track of time

STUDENT JUDGES
Varsity students may qualify as student judges if they are at least juniors or seniors who have competed in at least one full season (a minimum of six tourneys).  Student judges should be trained by the coaches from their school according to attached guidelines. (We will provide a “manual for judges” to help train student judges – possibly on the website.   We could also do a basic judging video to put on the website, as well.)This would be consistent with the IHSA providing “online training” for coaches. Special recognition will be given to student judges who write excellent ballots.

CRITIQUES
Critiques used will include criteria for excellence in each event.

REGISTRATION
Registration will be through SpeechWire. The specific invitation will be available on SpeechWire this fall.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships for summer camps will be awarded, based on the highest scores. The amounts and numbers of scholarships will be based on donations from university summer camp programs and from ISTA funds. For 2012, we had 9 scholarships for half tuition from residential camps- 3 from Bradley, 2 from ISU, 2 from Northern Illinois University, and two from ICTA. In addition we had two scholarships from Prairie State for their commuter camp.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT
Schools participating must have at least one coach who is an ISTA member.  Non-members must pay for membership with tourney fees.
