Dear Speech Coach, You and your students are cordially invited to participate in the sixth annual Lakeville South Cougar Invitational Speech Tournament on Saturday, February 9th, 2013 at Lakeville South High School. We are very excited to offer a fun, competitive day of speech. We will offer all 13 MSHSL events, as well as a fun impromptu category. NFL rules will be honored in all applicable events. As it is early in the season, we will be offering both varsity and novice finals. Team awards will also be given.
Format: Three rounds with finals Registration: No limit on number of categories per entry, but registration will close at 800; double entries are permitted, except in Discussion. Registration and details are available at www.speechwire.com. The deadline to register for the tournament is Wednesday, February 6th, at 5 p.m. Teams that are registered can then still add/drop competitors without penalty until Thursday, February 7 at 5 p.m., when costs become final. Please email drops and adds after that to lakevillesouthspeech@gmail.com, as we will try to accommodate all adds. Cost: $7.00 per entry (duo is one entry). Costs are final on Thursday, February 7th at 5 p.m. Checks made payable to Lakeville South High School Speech. Please either pay in advance by mailing a check (see address below) or having a check at registration. Your cooperation is appreciated. Judges: One judge for every six entries or fraction there of. Uncovered judging positions will carry a $75 fee. Impromptu: The impromptu category will be offered again this year. Students will be given a choice of three quotes at the start of their round and then have 7 minutes to use at their discretion to complete their speech. For example, a student may use 2 minutes to prepare their speech, and then 5 minutes minutes to speak. It is completely up to the student on how they use their time after they select a quotation (the judge will allow 30 seconds for the student to read and select a quotation). Students may triple enter at the tournament if they are competing in Impromptu, except in Discussion. More detailed information about the impromtu category, including the theme for each round in which the quotes were selected from, will be posted after the registration deadline. Food: Concessions will be available in the Commons area throughout the day. Food will be provided for coaches and judges in the lounge.
Draw Categories: Awards: Are scheduled to begin at 4:00. Once again, we will be awarding Cougar Bobblehead trophies to the top three varsity competitors in each category. Medals will be given to novice champions. There are no honors finals this year, but we will be awarding honorable mentions in the varsity division.
Schedule: The tournament will be site scheduled on Saturday morning to accommodate drops and adds in order to create balanced rounds. Please call my cell Saturday morning with any drops and possible adds if you are arriving close to the end of registration in order to ensure the schedule will be completed in a timely manner.
