Hello Competitive Forensics Colleagues:
Once again, Lena is hosting a speech tournament. We hope that you accept our invitation to join us out here in the provinces in the middle of blizzard season on Saturday, January 5 of next year.
As I explained to some of you while gauging interest in this year's tournament, the date is somewhat problematic. Our school is in session on January 5, but several (or many) others are not. And as we all know, high school activities grind to a halt during holiday seasons. Except for football. And basketball. And wrestling. Other than that, we all stay at home and enjoy our time off. But, many of you responded that you'd bring a team and that's good enough for us. However, because we are expecting a lower-than-normal turnout, we will be limiting each school's entries to 3 per category. That is to prevent any one school from dominating the competition, and from this number we will not budge. Even offering more money won't do any good. Sorry.
Other pertinent information is as follows (in no particular order):
Fee: $95
Open to Novices and Varsity.
Structure: Two prelims and 1 final. The first prelim will be double-judged, the second single-judged, and if we have the people, varsity finals will be triple judged (but I'm promising nothing; we'll see who we have to work with). Novice finals will have one judge.
Registration: Speechwire
Judges: One for every 5 entries.
Events: all 14 of them
Radio prep: Once for prelims, again for finals
Extemp questions and impromptu topics: Please send 10 each if you have entries in these categories.
Entry deadline: the day before you leave for Christmas Break
Food: Healthy and reasonably-priced. But, this year, I'm bowing to pressure and providing pizza. Surprisingly, Lena has a really good pizza place.
Location: the Elementary/Junior High building on the right side of Fremont. It's right across from the high school, but do not park in the high school lot. Park in the large lot to the south of the Elementary building.
Stuff I might have forgotten: I don't know; I don't remember, but call or write if you need something.
