Dear Coach and Speakers,
 The Ben Davis High School Speech Team is inviting you to our renewed Giants Invitational Speech Tournament January 12, 2013. The meet will be held in the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center which is connected to Ben Davis High School. The tournament information is listed below, including deadlines and entry information, event rules, and judging information for the tournament.

This is a varsity competition, with three rounds and a final in all categories.

Restrictions: Due to building size, teams are restricted to a one team entry with a maximum of 40 total. The tournament cut off is at 350 entries.
There will be NO pick-up drops.

How to Enter: All Registration will be done on www.speechwire.com. No emails, faxes or paper entries will be accepted. Entries must be received by 3:30 Tuesday January 8, 2013. Please make sure you included your email address with your entry so I can send you confirmation of your entry.

Registration: 7:15-8:00. Rounds will begin at 8:30 (Extempers MUST report to their prep rooms NO LATER THAN 7:45.  Draw begins at 8:00)

We will print all ballots and schematics after 8:00 to HOPEFULLY eliminate errors. All schematics for students will be posted outside the Media Center. In an effort to be as green as possible, students will NOT receive individual schematics.  Judges will pick up their own ballots at the ballot table outside the media center. NO TRADING BALLOTS!!

Ballot Return: All judges should return their signed and properly scored ballots and completed critique sheets at the end of each round to the ballot table outside of the media center. Judges are expected to stay for the entire meet.

There is no Discussion.

All events will follow IHSFA rules other than what has been stated.
Special Event Rules:

1. Doubling: There will be no doubling in Radio. Only Extemp may double in impromptu. Those doubled in Impromptu MUST go to Impromptu last. Both Duo partners may double; however any given student may not participate in two duos of any kind. No triple-entering will be allowed. Doubling is at risk of the student. Rounds will not be re-run for late speakers.
2. Extemp—Draw for Rounds 1 and 2 will begin at 8:00. Round 3 draw will begin at 11:00. The Round Three topic will be used for the final.
3. Broadcasting—Students need to bring 2 minute news cast no more than 3 days old,
a self-written one minute, commercial, advertising a beauty product for men or women, a self-written, two minute, editorial on the topic “Why was  Hurricane Sandy and the damage in the Northeast seemingly given more importance than hurricanes that hit other parts of the country?” On-the Spot will be from USA Today from the last 2 weeks.

Final-On the Spot—(2 minute prep)

There should be no leaving the building as food for students will be served in the cafeteria. Complimentary food for judges, coaches and bus drivers will be provided in the lounge.

Judging:
Each school MUST one judge for every 5 contestants and every fraction thereof. Teams that do not bring enough judges may be disqualified from the tournament sweepstakes awards.
Awards: We will be awarding TOP 8 ribbons in each event. Top 10 team trophies will be awarded for sweepstakes. Sweepstakes points will be awarded on an 8, 7, 6… point scale.
