Laurel School is proud to invite you to its ninth annual Speech and Debate Tournament, to be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 We are pleased and excited to offer this event, which will bring together the many outstanding students and coaches from throughout Ohio and beyond. We hope you will plan to join us!
We will offer all OHSSL events. Debate topics will be the NFL January/February topic for LD and the NFL January topic for PF. Please note that we will allow the use of laptops in all debate events. We will also allow the use of laptops in Extemp prep. Students who do not have a laptop are invited to bring their article indexes on a jump drive, and we will make computers available to you in the prep room.
NEW THIS YEAR: We will offer 3 rounds of competition for Middle School students in Public Forum Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking (General), Original Oratory, and Interpretation (Drama, Humor, Oratorical, or Prose/Poetry. These will be contested as a single Interpretation category.) Varsity students who are competing in the tournament are invited to judge Middle School events during off rounds. These students may be registered as judges in SpeechWire; please specify judge type.
In order to help our tournament run smoothly, please review the following information carefully as you plan your registration and transportation.
Entries
We will accept four entries in all events (more if space allows). WE WILL ALLOW IE (SPEECH) COMPETITORS TO ENTER TWO EVENTS. There will be NO MAVERICKS in partnership events (Policy Debate, Public Forum, Duo Interp).
Judges
We require that you provide one judge for every two LD competitors (or fraction), one judge for every two Public Forum or Two Person Policy teams (or fraction) and one judge for every five congress competitors. In IE, we require one judge for every five entries (duos count as one entry.) We’d greatly appreciate your covering your judge requirements so that the tournament will run smoothly.
Varsity Student Judges who choose to judge Middle School events DO NOT COUNT toward judge requirements.
Fees
Tournament fees will be $3.00 per contestant. Double entries count as two contestants. Please bring cash or a check made payable to Laurel School.

Our dining service will lay on a spread for your teams! Full lunch, including soups, entrees, sides, and full salad bar is available for a flat cost of $5.00 for students and adults. Drinks and snacks will be available as well.
