On behalf of the team here at UIUC, I am ecstatic to invite you all to the first ever Champaign Chats IE Invitational, hosted here on the UIUC campus in Urbana, IL on Saturday, February 22, 2020. I know that there are many options for tournaments this weekend and I would be honored if you would join us this weekend.

We will offer all 11 NFA/AFA events and will follow NFA guidelines. Any questions/concerns can be directed towards Eli Ballowe.

Entries will be due Tuesday, February 18 by 5pm, with drops being allowed until 5pm on Wednesday, February 19, after which point fees will be assessed.

Each entry will be $10. Judges will cover 6 entries, with uncovered slots costing $10 in addition to the base cost. Entry drops after the drop deadline will be $10, going up to $15 for drops at registration. Judge drops will be $25 plus the cost of hiring a judge.

The tournament will be operated out of Gregory and Lincoln Halls on the UIUC main quad. Registration will be in Gregory Hall. The accessible entrance to Gregory Hall is located on the north side of the building. If you need to enter Lincoln Hall the accessible entrance is on the east side of the building facing the main quad.

There will be wifi access available for extemp prep, although we cannot guarantee its reliability. Impromptu prompts will be in the form of a quotation.

Parking is free on weekends with the nearest parking lot to the tournament being on the corner of 6th and Armory. More detailed information regarding parking can be found on our campus parking website https://parking.illinois.edu/visitors/campus-maps/campus-parking-map/map2-3.

Sweepstakes:

Anyone entered in four events over two genres will be eligible for individual sweepstakes. We will award the top three competitors for individual sweeps. We will also award the top three schools.

ICE Information:

Our program is committed to inclusiveness and welcomes students and coaches from all identities and social roles.  In light of ongoing harassment and discrimination, and the current administration's most recent action to repeal DACA, our programs stand in solidarity with, and will continue to offer a safe, educational space for our most vulnerable members.  The University of Illinois has joined with 698 other Universities to show official support for DACA and to call for its continuation and expansion. The University of Illinois has its own campus police and has not declared itself a sanctuary campus, but U of I police do not have a history of cooperating with ICE that we are aware of.

Urbana is a sanctuary city; Champaign is not.  Champaign police will generally not help the government investigate immigration status unless there is a court order to do so.  The new sheriff, Dustin Heuerman, has expressed an intent not to cooperate with ICE, but this does not guarantee perfect safety.

Gender Neutral Bathrooms:

While the university allows anyone to use any restroom they want regardless of gender identity, we understand some people may be more comfortable using gender neutral bathrooms. The nearest gender neutral restrooms to the tournament are on the north-east corner of the Illini Union, located on the north end of our main quad.
